Dissertation: A mixed-methods examination of resilience and social connectedness among youth in an alternative to suspension program.

 

The dissertation employed community-based participatory research with a community-based intervention program located in the Southeastern region of the United States.  The project aimed to illustrate the value of alternative spaces to out-of-school suspension and improve the evaluation capacity of the organization. This was an integral component in pursuing a PhD in Community Psychology and engaging perspectives of community stakeholders. 

 

2010    M.S. Psychology, North Carolina State University

Thesis Equivalence: Destigmatization, a promotive factor against racial discrimination.

 

The thesis was based on a resilience framework and examined youths' ability to de-emphasize stigmas associated with their racial group and combat encounters of racial discrimination across their social ecology. 

 

2003    M. Ed., North Carolina StateUniversity

Capstone: Our lingering past: The impact of history on standardized testing, tracking, and pedagogy.

 

The paper was submitted to fulfill the requirements of the M. Ed. and examined historical data to explore the relationship between construct of race, standardized testing, tracking, and teaching on the academic achievment of minority youth.
